Blues Solos
Containing a mixture of well and lesser known songs this page reflects my current passion for improving my blues lead improvisation. Playing interesting lead guitar over a simple 3 chord rhythm progression is one of the biggest challenges a guitarist can face and as such is something we should all aim for.
Black Magic Woman - Peter Green
Letter B in the A-Z of blues solos series looks at a live version of the Fleetwood Mac classic Black Magic Woman taken from the 1970 Boston Tea Party concert.
The Thrill Is Gone - Joe Bonamassa Part 3
After a 2 year delay finally posting a lesson on the final solo and outro from Joe Bonamassa's version of The Thrill Is Gone from The Greek Theatre recording.
I'll Play The Blues For You - Kirk Fletcher
My 3rd lesson taken from Joe Bonamassa's live version of Albert King's I'll Play the Blues For You. This one looks at Kirk Fletcher's amazing contribution.
Don't Believe A Word - Gary Moore
When playing this Thin Lizzy song live Gary Moore would often do a slow bluesy version of the song before switching to the faster version. This lesson looks at one of his slower solos.
All Your Love - Eric Clapton
First in my series, A-Z of blues guitar solos, this lesson looks at Eric Clapton's 2 solos on the John Mayall and Bluesbreaker's version of Otis Rushs' All Your Love.
The Thrill Has Gone - B.B. King
A particularly cool rendition of B.B.King's most famous song with his lead playing never sounding better.
Peter Green Style Solo
Although still impossible to imitate his touch and feel this solo is fairly simple for a Peter Green one. Based on the Fleetwood Mac song Stop Messin'Round.
