The below image explains how chord diagrams work:

Chord diagrams are generally displayed with vertical lines representing the strings and horizontal lines the frets.

Sometimes recommended fingers for holding the notes are shown with 1 being the first finger, 2 the middle finger and so on.

If not specified that a string is either held or muted (x) then presume the open string is to be played.
song sheet
Song sheets, or chord sheets, show the chord progression used for various parts of a song and can be displayed in many ways. Most of the song sheets we use will look something like this:

In this example we see the chord progression for the intro, verse and chorus of a song. The vertical lines (|) show the bar/measure lines. Notice that some bars contain more than one chord such as the verse where the first bar has both an A and F# minor.
